Be safe everyone and remember to check on old family and friends and neighbors. Don't forget to check on these things while you still have time. (1) Water at least 1 gallon per person per day for 3–5 days. Extra for pets. Fill bathtubs or containers if you’re worried about losing water pressure. (2) Heating (Diesel Heaters) Confirm heaters are working before the storm. Stock extra diesel fuel and store it safely. Check fuel lines for leaks or cracks. Make sure exhaust and intake vents will not be blocked by snow. (3) Generator & Fuel Test the generator under load. Have enough fuel for at least 48–72 hours. Keep extension cords rated for outdoor/winter use. (4) Never run generators indoors or in garages. (this kills people every year) (5) Lighting -Flashlights for every room. Extra batteries. LED lanterns for longer runtime. Avoid candles if possible due to fire risk. (6) Food Non-perishable food for 3–5 days. Manual can opener. Easy-to-prepare meals that don’t require much water or power. (7)Medications & Medical Needs Refill prescriptions early. Basic first-aid kit. Backup power for medical devices if needed. (8) Communications Fully charge phones and battery banks. Weather radio (battery or hand-crank). Keep emergency contact numbers written down. (9)Vehicle Readiness Full tank of fuel. Snow brush, ice scraper, and shovel. Warm blankets, gloves, boots. Check antifreeze and windshield fluid rated for freezing temps. (10) Home Safety Carbon monoxide detectors working with fresh batteries. Fire extinguisher accessible. Clear vents, chimneys, and flues before the storm. Snow & Ice Tools Snow shovel or snow blower ready. Ice melt or sand. Roof rake if heavy snow is expected.
