The design included a forced-notch closing mechanism and a distinctive yatagan-style blade. Legend of Napoleon’s BeeA popular—but unverified—legend claims Napoleon granted the right to use his imperial bee as a mark of recognition for the bravery of the Laguiole region. However, this remains anecdotal, since the bee only appeared long after Napoleon’s time.
