Japanese Knife Repair & Sharpening | A Full Day of Multitasking in the Shop

For this Japanese knife repair, I started by using my 2x42 belt sander to remove a chip and thin the blade back to proper geometry. Once the profile was corrected, I moved over to my Tormek sharpening machines, progressing from 250 grit all the way up to 1200 for a smooth, clean, and razor-sharp edge. After sharpening, I treated the wood handle with Danish oil, then placed it into a vacuum chamber to let the oil fully penetrate before setting it out to dry. This step really helps protect and bring out the beauty of the wood. Here is a link to my Favorite wood treatments and even the swabs I like for putting on oil. https://www.amazon.com/shop/alexandriaknifesharpeninglaserengraving/list/2U7H0YMOGRPLV?ref_=aipsflist In this video, you’ll also get a glimpse of a few other projects happening in the shop at the same time — including laser engraving work and putting the finishing touches on a long-term refurbish job. 👉 If you enjoy knife repair, sharpening, or laser engraving projects, subscribe to the channel and hit the bell so you don’t miss future videos.
