In this video I unbox and install the Fluval FX4 external canister filter, and I take you through the whole setup from start to first startup. I originally bought the FX4 because one of my filters on the African cichlid tank started to leak, but it ended up going on my 200L Aquel Opt (you’ll hear me mention the 240L a lot because of when I filmed parts of this). Either way, it’s a seriously chunky unit, and on a tank this size it’s going to have loads of performance. I go over what you get in the box (hoses, rim connectors, taps/valves, sponges, ceramic rings, media bags), how I set up the baskets, and how I run and measure the ribbed hose properly (don’t just cut it in half—measure for your own cabinet and layout). I also show the intake/output install, how I secure the hose with the clamps, and how I position everything in the cabinet. For first start, I fill the canister with 6L of water (FX2/FX4 recommendation) to submerge the pump, then open the inlet/outlet and let the smart pump technology purge the air. The flow is seriously impressive, the tap design is brilliant, and overall it’s one of the easiest canister filters I’ve set up—so far, I’m very impressed.
