About This Video

How’s it going everybody? In this video I finally kick off a proper fish room upgrade by getting my new racking system installed and getting the first tanks wet. Full disclaimer: my dad built this rack for me because I’m not a DIY person at all, and I didn’t want those flimsy metal shelving units. I wanted something hardwearing, strong, and built to take real weight long-term—and this one’s got three usable shelves, perfect for how tight the space is. The first job was setting up the bottom shelf as a quarantine/plant storage tank (something I’ve never had space for before). I leak tested a 55L Aqua One Nano 40 for a couple of days (which I’d recommend, especially with marketplace tanks), then moved fish and a load of plants across. I also broke down my Aqua Nano 60, explained why that rear filter compartment caused me nothing but problems (muck build-up and Malaysian trumpet snails everywhere), and removed it so the tank can be reused properly later. To finish off, I planned the top shelf with two Aqua One Optiscape 32s—ideal for low-maintenance setups like shrimp tanks—because the top of a rack is not where you want a high-maintenance aquarium. Loads more builds coming off the back of this one.
