Today was a first for the channel: I built a dedicated shrimp tank, start to finish, with one goal in mind—creating the perfect little nano setup for Yellow/Golden Neocaridina. I used a budget-friendly 25L Diversa tank and a cheap clip-on NICREW-style light, painted the background black (four coats of masonry paint) so the shrimp colour would really pop, and then built a simple triangular aquascape with Dennerle Shrimp King active soil. For the hardscape I went with small pieces of spider wood and river cobbles (garden centre ones to keep costs down), then locked everything in place with cyanoacrylate super glue gel so I didn’t have to wait weeks for the wood to sink. Planting was all about giving shrimp loads of cover and grazing areas: Anubias nana petite and Java moss got glued into shaded spots and over any visible glue marks, then I filled out the scape with stems and in-vitro plants like Staurogyne repens and Helianthium tenellum green for that carpet. After filling, I added dechlorinator (Prime/Optimus), a capful of Stability, and a one-time dose of API Leaf Zone—then I left the tank alone to season. A month later, once the sponge filter was matured and biofilm was there, I teamed up with Somerset Shrimp Shack for the livestock, drip acclimated the shrimp for about an hour, and got them into their new home.
