It has been a month since we set up our very first African cichlid aquarium in the @eheim vivaline 240 LED. In this video we take delivery of 6 new peacock (Aulonocara) cichlids and I have to say that I am genuinely thrilled with what we received. About This Video

Today was an exciting one for two reasons: I added more African cichlids to my Malawi setup, and it was my first ever fish unboxing on the channel. It’s been about a month since I set up the Eheim Vivaline 240 LED, and the tank was already home to around 10 peacocks (and haps). This delivery was six new male Aulonocara peacocks from Aquatics To Your Door, and I was genuinely thrilled with what turned up—really nice fish, good heat in the box, and after four days they’d settled in extremely well and were eating great. Because Malawi tanks run on hierarchy, I don’t just drop one new fish in and hope for the best—if you do that, they’ll spot the “new guy” and pick it off. So I introduced them as a group while doing my usual 50% water change. I floated the bags to match temperature, then bucket-acclimated for around 15–30 minutes to account for potential pH differences (my tank sits around 7.8–8). I also dosed a little Prime to detoxify anything in the bag water, added an airstone, then got them in quickly—one fish was clearly stressed. Stocking-wise, this pretty much concludes the current plan: 16 cichlids total, plus five Synodontis catfish and my green phantom pleco. Filtration is currently two external canisters, but as they grow I may need to upgrade one to something like a Fluval FX2/FX4. Weekly, this tank gets a 50–60% water change to keep everything running properly.
