About This Video

So you think your drums already punchy, right? In this video I tested eight different Safari Pedals plugins on a real session and showed how to take drums from sounding amateur to actually hitting like they’re supposed to. I’m not doing theory-only talk either—I’m literally throwing these on the drum buss and the 808, tweaking a few key knobs, and letting you hear what changes. Shout out to Safari Pedals for sending the plugins, but I’m still keeping it honest about what’s actually useful. I start with Gorilla Drive for quick drum tone shaping (even just turning down the tone changes the whole vibe). Then I jump into Time Machine, which gives you that vintage multi-effect flavor across different eras, plus a subtle compression that filters drums in a unique way. I also show a 4-band compressor style plugin (with modes like pump/smooth/lofi/mix bus) when you need your drums to “move” more. After that, Dragon EQ is a big one—using the drive on lows/mids/highs is crazy for making drums stand out, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m probably using that on drums all the time. I also mess with a warm tape-style distortion you can blend in, plus a vintage phase amp-style effect for bass/808 (I’d use it on an aux for better control). Then we get into Zebra Clipper with the mojo/sub boost vibes—this one can bring in serious low-end. Finally, I try a subharmonic enhancer, but I recommend it more on the 808/aux because it can mess with highs if you slap it on the whole drum buss.
