I'm travelling across North America to every 2026 World Cup host city to find the best food. Miami is one of the most insane food cities in America, and it is so much more than beaches, palm trees and nightlife. In this episode of my 2026 World Cup food series, I’m in Miami, Florida, to find out why this city has one of the most exciting food scenes on the entire route. Miami is a city built on sunshine, movement, migration and flavour. Cuban food is the heartbeat here, but the more you eat your way through the city, the more you realise Miami is not just one thing. It is old-school Cuban counters, legendary sandwiches, late-night pizza, smash burgers, fritas, seafood and a ridiculous amount of character. I start at La Camaronera, one of Miami’s great Cuban seafood institutions, for a classic fish sandwich and fried shrimp. No nonsense, no polish, just properly old-school cooking from a place that feels like Miami in its purest form. Then I head to Versailles, probably the most famous Cuban restaurant in America, for a table full of Cuban classics. This place is part restaurant, part landmark, part living museum of Miami’s Cuban community. After that, I visit Sanguich to try what many people call the best Cubano sandwich in the city. Proper bread, roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard and that perfect pressed crunch. Then it is over to Miami Slice for one of the best pizzas in America. A tiny room, serious hype, and slices that are absolutely worth the queue. From there, I hit Skinny Louie for what might be the best burger in Miami. Simple, smashed, filthy in the right way, and exactly the sort of thing you want after a day eating around the city. And finally, I finish at El Rey De Las Fritas for a traditional Cuban frita, Miami’s own answer to the burger, loaded with spiced beef, crispy potato sticks and a lot of history. This is part of my 16-part series travelling to every 2026 FIFA World Cup host city in North America to find out which city has the best food. I’ve already visited New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston and Boston, and now I’m in Miami, a city that completely won me over.
