I start with tapas in Malaga, visiting El Tapeo Malaga for classic Spanish dishes and a proper introduction to the city’s food culture. Small plates, local ingredients, traditional flavours and the kind of relaxed tapas bar energy that makes eating in Malaga feel so easy. Then I head to Casa Lola, one of the most popular places for tapas in Malaga, to try more of the city’s classic dishes. If you’re looking for the best tapas in Malaga, this is the sort of place that comes up again and again. After that, I go for ice cream in Malaga, before heading up to Castillo de Gibralfaro, one of the best things to see in Malaga, for views over the city, the port and the coastline. Then it’s time for something completely different at Venta Galway, where I try mountain food outside Malaga. This is the heavier, more rustic side of Andalusian cooking, with grilled meat, traditional dishes and proper countryside restaurant energy. From there, I visit Mercado Central de Atarazanas, Malaga’s famous central market, to see the seafood, produce, local ingredients and everyday food culture of the city. Then I head to El Tintero, one of the most famous seafood restaurants in Malaga, for a completely unique dining experience by the sea. Fresh fish, fried seafood, plates being called out across the restaurant and the kind of organised chaos that makes it one of the most memorable places to eat in Malaga. Finally, I finish at El Pimpi, one of the best-known restaurants in Malaga, for classic Andalusian food, local wine, history and one of the most iconic dining rooms in the city.
