Join us online for our family program Stories and Art, where we tell stories and look at art together! This month’s story, “The King’s Magic Drum,” is from the Igbo people of southern Nigeria in Africa. The story is paired with two drums from the Yale University Art Gallery’s collection: one by an unidentified Yorùbá artist from the Guinea Coast of Nigeria (early to mid-20th century) and another by an unidentified Fante artist from Ghana (mid to late 20th century). As you listen to the story, notice what details you see in the artwork. Then, using a piece of paper and a pencil, draw your own design for a drum. We hope you have fun!
