Watch Part 1 here: https://youtu.be/v6OPrySL8Xk This film transports the viewer into the magical world of polar night in northern Scandinavia. North of the Arctic Circle, the sun disappears below the horizon for a long time in winter. Darkness, icy temperatures and stormy winds dominate the country. In this extreme world of darkness and cold, however, nature copes amazingly well. Plants change their metabolism or hide under the snow cover to avoid freezing. Some animals flourish, like the polar bear; others hibernate, like the brown bear, or migrate by the thousands to their winter pastures, like the reindeer. Reindeers’ eyes change so that they can see well even in twilight. Amazing adaptations of their blood circulation and a dense winter coat protect them from freezing to death, even at minus 40 degrees. This applies to musk oxen and moose, too. The herbivores also have a special digestive system that helps them get through the winter on a meagre diet. Despite the best adaptation, not all creatures make it through the hostile winter. But the death of one can ensure the survival of others. For ravens, eagles, wolverines and wolves, a carcass is a real feast. While the interior of the land is frozen in cold and snow, coastal areas are surprisingly mild. The Gulf Stream keeps the sea ice-free off the coast of Norway, even in winter – creating a refuge rich in food for seabirds, and a hunting ground for killer whales. But polar night brings not only darkness, cold and danger – the beauty of the snowy landscape comes into its own in the long, colourful twilight hours. And when the dark skies are lit up by the dance of the northern lights, the polar night unfolds its truly unique enchantment. ------- Chapters ▷ 00:00 - Introduction ▷ 01:02 - Autumn Begins - Feeding Frenzy Before Darkness ▷ 03:06 - Reindeer, Swans & the Last Harvest of Light ▷ 05:22 - Winter Arrives - Silence, Snow & Hibernation ▷ 06:45 - Life in the Cold - Winter Birds & Forest Survivors ▷ 08:06 - Reindeer Migration - Instincts in the Arctic Night ▷ 09:30 - Why the Arctic Has Seasons - Earth's Tilt Explained ▷ 11:11 - Twilight & Aurora - The Magic of Polar Night ▷ 12:07 - Seeing in the Dark - Arctic Foxes, Reindeer Eyes & Adaptation ▷ 13:15 - Masters of the Cold - Musk Oxen & Reindeer in Winter ▷ 15:22 - The Warm North - Gulf Stream, Fjords & Winter Wildlife ▷ 17:11 - Herring Seas - Orcas Hunt in Norway's Winter Fjords ▷ 18:48 - Spitsbergen - Polar Bears in the Heart of the Polar Night ▷ 20:04 - Northern Lights - Aurora Over the Frozen North ▷ 21:30 - Camouflage & Danger - Arctic Foxes, Ptarmigans & Lemmings ▷ 24:07 - Reindeer in Crisis - Ice Rain, Hunger & Climate Change ▷ 26:14 - Ravens, Eagles & Winter Scavengers ▷ 27:34 - Wolverine - Silent Hunter of the Polar Night ▷ 28:40 - Winter Survival Strategies - Plants & Forest Creatures ▷ 31:18 - Moose, Squirrels & Life in the Froen Forest ▷ 34:03 - Twilight Returns - First Light After the Long Night ▷ 36:33 - Sea Fog, Ice Crystals & the Beauty of Deep Winter ▷ 38:04 - King Eiders, Ducks & Harbor Life in the Arctic Cold ▷ 40:39 - Sun Returns to the High Arctic - Spitsbergen Awakens ▷ 41:22 - Reindeer Struggle - Ice Layers Block Their Food ▷ 43:00 - Arctic Fox Salvation - A Winter Feast ▷ 44:47 - Polar Bears & Mating Season in the Mountains ▷ 47:36 - March - The Return of Day Across the Arctic ▷ 48:03 - Kittiwakes Return - Cliff Battles for Nesting Sites ▷ 49:33 - Polar Night Ends - The Arctic Prepares for Summer ▷ 50:43 - Credits #documentary #animals #wildlife #winter #nature #northernlights #polarlights #arctic #climatechange #globalwarming #animalbehavior #animalplanet ------- Subscribe to wocomoWILDLIFE: https://goo.gl/L5puvQ Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wocomo ------- Original title: Polarnight | Land of the Far North (2/2) © 2020, Licensed by Albatross ------- Videos about animals, aquatic life and nature: wocomoWILDLIFE offers high-quality entertainment.
