Flight Restriction Zones (FRZs) are one of the most misunderstood parts of drone flying in the UK. In this video I explain — in plain English — what actually counts as restricted airspace and what doesn’t. Many drone pilots assume that anything marked red on a map is automatically a no-fly zone. That simply isn’t true. In this first part of the series we look at: • What a Flight Restriction Zone actually is • Who controls the airspace in the UK • Why airports create FRZs • The exact distances and boundaries around runways • Why some areas look restricted on maps but are not prohibited If you fly drones in the UK, understanding these rules will make you a safer and more confident pilot.
