In an effort to close the $986 million dollar budget gap for 2025, without slashing social programs or instituting mass layoffs, Mayor Brandon Johnson broke a campaign promise and proposed the largest property tax hike in a decade. This would mean an estimated 4.8% increase on the city portion that homeowners see on their property tax bills.
