Student loan relief program ends for 30 million borrowers On Sept. 30, late fees and negative credit reporting for missed payments resume. The COVID pause on student loan repayments was lifted last September, but there was a one-year grace period to ease the transition. So even though payments were due, late payments didn’t come with a late fee and didn’t ding your credit score. Those guardrails are going away.
