In this video I explain why you should almost always be lagging the putts instead of trying to make everything. Never up never in is destroying your game. Start lagging your putts and try to two putt and watch your scores come down. In this chart, we have two Y-axes. On the left, we have the percentage of one-putts, and on the right, the percentage of three-putts. The X-axis represents the distance from the hole. As we move closer to the hole, the percentage of one-putts increases significantly. Conversely, as we move further away, the percentage of three-putts starts to rise. What's interesting is the point where the one-putt and three-putt percentages intersect. This distance varies depending on the skill level of the golfer. For professional golfers, this intersection occurs at around 31 feet. At this distance, the likelihood of them making a one-putt is equal to the likelihood of them making a three-putt. For a scratch golfer, who plays at a very high level but isn't a professional, this distance is approximately 25 feet. For a bogey golfer, who typically scores around one over par for each hole, this critical distance is much closer, at about 16 feet. Understanding these distances can help golfers of all skill levels improve their putting strategy by recognizing their strengths and weaknesses at various distances from the hole.
