About This Video

In Day 9 of my DaVinci Resolve on iPad series, I’m talking about the one crucial element most people miss in color grading—especially when they’re grading on an iPad and then checking the same footage on a desktop. That “why does it look different?” moment usually isn’t because your nodes are wrong… it’s because your viewing pipeline is. If you don’t control what you’re seeing (display behavior, brightness, and where you’re judging your grade), your grade will never feel consistent. I walk through a practical grading mindset using nodes: starting simple with a single node, then building into multi-node setups so your corrections stay clean and repeatable. After that, I get into subject tracking (so your grade sticks to the subject instead of the whole frame) and why parallel nodes can be a lifesaver when you want multiple looks or corrections without everything fighting each other. The main takeaway: don’t just “grade harder”—grade smarter, and make sure you’re judging your work on a consistent display setup so iPad vs desktop doesn’t trick you.
