Romance fraud is a growing financial crime, with over 8 in 10 cases starting online. Something Mel Fordham knows all too well after her mother-in-law, Janet Fordham, sadly lost her life trying to recoup the money she was scammed out of. Janet ,69, had fallen victim to several online romance scams and is estimated to have lost up to £1million. In a bid to get her money back, Janet travelled to Ghana but sadly died in a car crash on Valentine’s Day 2023. Mel joins us to tell Janet’s story in the hope it will shine a light on the ever growing issue of romance fraud. Plus, Trading Standards’ Louise Baxter will share her expert advice.
