Savu Glass

The Savu Glass is the one I didn’t expect to add to my core lineup, but it earned its spot for cask strength whisky. It’s designed to dissipate ethanol vapours, and it lets me dig into bold drams without that alcohol burn getting in the way—sometimes even revealing notes I’d otherwise miss.

Buy on Savuglass

You'll be taken to Savuglass to complete your purchase.

Pros

  • +Reduces ethanol burn on the nose, especially with high-ABV whisky
  • +Helps reveal additional flavours and aromas in bold whiskies
  • +Hand-blown and purpose-built for tasting

Cons

  • -More expensive than standard whisky glasses because it’s hand-blown
  • -Some whisky drinkers are resistant to it because they like alcohol-driven intensity

What The Whisky Scribe says

I started turning to the Savu Glass
They didn't want to draw attention to the red wine, but now that I've pulled this into the Savu Glass, I can actually, there is a little bit of that jammy sort of note that if I used this when I did that review the first time, I probably would have been able to detect that there was red wine casks used
So yeah, the Savu Glass
I don't ever want to move off the Glencairn Glencairn will always be my default, but the Savu Glass is actually a really, really wonderful back up, especially if you're tasting a cask strength whisky and you want to get a little bit more out of it
So if you ordered this, and particularly if you're in Australia and I think New Zealand as well, they ship there, if you order the Savu Glass and it doesn't do what they say it does, you don't, you don't get more out of your whisky from having tried it
