Come behind the scenes with me as I photograph a Telugu Hindu wedding in Davis, California. This video takes you through my full process — from scouting the venue, to directing portraits, to documenting the ceremony and reception. Along the way, I share how I balance film and digital photography to tell the story of a South Asian wedding day. What you’ll see in this video: – Scouting a ranch-style garden venue before the ceremony – Directing the couple during portraits – Working with challenging light + narrowing down portrait spots in a sprawling venue [The Maples] – Using a blend of analog film and digital together – Capturing the beauty and rhythm of a Telugu Hindu ceremony and reception South Asian weddings are vibrant, complex, and full of meaning — photographing them is always both a challenge and a joy. My couple here loved film, which became a huge part of my storytelling. You’ll see how analog and digital images come together to create a complete wedding narrative. About This Video

In this behind-the-scenes wedding video, I’m photographing a Telugu Hindu wedding in Davis, California, and I’m bringing you through how I actually work a South Asian wedding day—especially when I’m balancing film and digital. We start with a quick look back at the earlier events (Haldi, Mehndi, and Sangeet—always a favorite), then jump into day three where I’m running on cold brew and what I jokingly call “red dot ambition.” The couple loved film, so you’ll see a true mix of analog and digital coverage throughout. A big chunk of the day is scouting, because scouting is the homework before the test. The venue was huge and a little scattered, so I walked the property hunting for clean lines, structure, and places where the light would cooperate. The tree tunnel became my anchor—dramatic and undeniable—even if the light wasn’t perfect and I didn’t get the fog I secretly prayed for. From there, I move fast through portraits (private vows, simple direction, small adjustments), fight for the frames I pre-visualized, and then document ceremony details and moments with an eye for scale, color, texture, and interesting light. By sunset, we’re back in the tree tunnel and wrapping the day with the joy-and-chaos of dancing and reception coverage.
