Leica M11-P: What Stood Out on Day One

I have a new camera in my life! Leica’s M11-P may look similar to the M11, but after my first day with it, it was immediately clear this camera has its own personality. In this video, I unbox the black chrome M11-P, walk through my initial setup and preferred settings, and then take it out for a real-world test shooting in downtown Cleveland. I start with a hands-on unboxing and share my honest first impressions of the build, design, and what Leica includes in the box. From there, I go through how I set the camera up for intuitive, fast use — covering menu choices, button customization, and the accessories I reach for right away. These settings will likely evolve over time, but this is how I like to begin living with a new Leica body. To finish, I take the M11-P out on a casual photo walk through downtown Cleveland, including time spent photographing the historic Arcade. It’s an inspiring space to slow down, observe light and detail, and see how the camera responds straight out of the box. I include real image samples throughout so you can judge color, contrast, and rendering for yourself. Whether you’re considering the Leica M11-P or simply curious how it feels to use in the real world, this is a relaxed, honest first look at Leica’s latest digital rangefinder. About This Video

It’s a big day: I’ve got a new camera in my life—the Leica M11-P—and in this video I take you with me from the unboxing to my first real walk with it in downtown Cleveland. Right out of the gate, the black chrome body is stunning, and the first thing you’ll notice is there’s no red dot on the front. I’m not mad about it (I’ll be okay with it), but I can already tell I’m going to miss seeing that little red dot, especially when I’m shooting selfies. Leica also continues to set the bar for packaging—plus I love that it’s all recycled cardboard/paper, which genuinely matters to me. After the unboxing, I show exactly how I like to start living with a new Leica body: battery in, SD card in, and then straight into settings so the camera feels intuitive and fast. I walk through how I set file types (DNG + JPEG), why I keep my DNGs at medium (36MP) and JPEGs small (18MP), and how I format both the SD card and internal memory to start clean. I also turn on the M11-P’s extra credentials (copyright/creator info), set my ISO workflow to fully manual (I don’t like auto ISO), and customize the wheel button to ISO because it’s the most practical use for me. Then I take the M11-P out to the Cleveland Arcade for a first run with my 50mm Summilux and share the vibe of slowing down, watching light, and seeing how this camera responds on day one.
