About This Video

In this video I’m unboxing the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max Wind Edition — basically the Mate 80 Pro Max, but with a built-in fan that’s actually integrated into the camera module. Straight away, the box is interesting (yes, it even comes with a small bottle), and you get a surprisingly compact 100W charger plus a USB-C to USB-C cable. My first impression was genuinely that it looks almost identical to the regular Mate 80 Pro Max, which is kind of the highest compliment you can give a phone that’s hiding a fan inside it. I break down what makes the “Wind Edition” different: the second generation Red Wind fan replaces where the 6.2x telephoto used to be, so now you’re getting 4x optical zoom that effectively reaches 8x (beyond that it’s cropped). The airflow happens through over 11,200 laser-engraved micro holes around the module, and Huawei’s gone heavy on protection with a triple-layer dust system plus nano coating — while still keeping IP68/IP69. You’ve got fan modes (off, smart, fast) and Android-level performance controls, and it’s powered by the Kirin 9030 Pro with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. The big takeaway for me is balance: it delivers serious performance and smart memory compression (making 16GB feel like 20GB), but it doesn’t feel like an over-the-top gaming phone. It’s a premium flagship first — and I’ll be following up with a full detailed review soon, including UK availability details as we learn more.
