Packaged preschool curriculums may be research-based and written by PhD’s, but when it comes to the **real classroom**, they often miss the mark. In this video, I share why I don’t use boxed or packaged curriculums in my preschool and Pre-K classroom—and why I believe **creative teachers can do it better**. 🚫The Problem with Packaged Curriculums: * Sticking with the same theme for 3+ weeks → boredom for kids and teachers * Reading the same stories and repeating activities → disengagement * Strict director expectations → no room for creativity * Written by experts far removed from day-to-day classroom realities 🌟 My Perspective as a Teacher: Packaged programs may be rooted in research, but they don’t always reflect the reality of teaching 15+ preschoolers every single day. Classroom management problems often stem from kids being bored with repetitive activities. Instead, I’ve learned to create new themes, bring in fresh books, and design engaging activities that fit my students’ needs. 🙌 A Thank You to Packaged Curriculums: If nothing else, I appreciate that these programs pushed me to become more creative and resourceful. Sometimes, the **best curriculum comes from the teachers who are actually in the classroom**—not from a binder on a shelf. 💬 What do YOU think? Do you use a packaged curriculum in your classroom? About This Video

In this video, I’m sharing my honest perspective on why packaged (boxed) preschool curriculums don’t work well in a real Pre-K classroom—even when they’re “research-based” and written by people with impressive credentials. I’ve tried following programs that want you to stick with the same theme for three weeks (or more), read the same stories over and over, and repeat the same activities on a tight schedule. In theory it sounds organized. In practice, it can lead to bored kids, bored teachers, and way more behavior issues than you need. What I’ve learned is that classroom management problems often show up when kids are disengaged. When the curriculum is too repetitive or too strict, it doesn’t leave room for me to respond to the actual group of 15+ little humans in front of me. I do better when I can swap in fresh books, adjust activities, and change themes to match my students’ needs and interests. And honestly, packaged curriculums did give me something valuable: they pushed me to become more creative and resourceful. At the end of the day, I believe the best curriculum comes from teachers who are actually in the classroom—not a binder sitting on a shelf.
