It’s Pumpkin Week in my preschool classroom, and in this video I’m giving you a full peek at how I run a pumpkin theme that’s calm, fun, and actually doable. I walk you through my themed centers for math and literacy, plus my favorite science and art activities that keep kids engaged with hands-on, play-based learning. Everything is developmentally appropriate, standards-based, and set up so you can teach it without feeling like you’re reinventing the wheel all week. For math, I use simple, repeatable routines like count & trace, count & stack, more/less/the same, count & match puzzles, and shape puzzles—easy for kids to understand and easy for me to manage. For literacy, I include letter tracing, letter match & clip, letter-sound matching, and seek-and-find letters, plus a foldable pumpkin life cycle rhyming coloring book. Then we bring it all together with pumpkin life cycle sequencing, “inside out” pumpkins, coffee-filter pumpkin art, planting a pumpkin patch in a pumpkin, and a real pumpkin exploration. I also share the visuals I use (posters, vocabulary strips) and the teacher supports that make the week run smoothly—book lists, assessments, and planned lesson plans.
