About This Video

In this video, I’m sharing what Friends & Family Week looks like in my preschool classroom—and how I keep it playful, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate. I walk you through hands-on math, literacy, and art centers that help children talk about the people who care for them and the friends they’re getting to know at school. This is one of my favorite themes because it builds classroom community while still hitting real learning goals. You’ll see activities like my “My Family” popsicle & circle portraits (simple materials, big kid buy-in) and a “My Friends” placemat using photos of new classmates to support connection and name recognition. For early literacy, I include a family journal page to encourage drawing and emergent writing in a low-pressure way. For math, I share “How Many People in My Family?” graphing plus count & clip cards for easy numeracy practice. I also include a story-based option with an Alligator Baby sequencing activity—because preschoolers learn best when we anchor skills in stories and play. If you want everything organized and ready to go, these ideas are pulled from my Family & Friends Lesson Plans in my TPT store.
