In this video, I’m giving you a peek inside my Community Helpers Preschool Unit and how I use it to build math, literacy, and creativity skills in a way that still feels calm, fun, and play-based. Community helpers is always a favorite theme in preschool and pre-k, and I love that it naturally connects to real life—firefighters, police officers, doctors, and all the people who help our neighborhoods run. I walk you through what’s included so you can easily plug it into your day for circle time, small groups, or center rotations. For math, I focus on shapes, numbers, counting, and 1:1 correspondence. For literacy, I include vocabulary cards plus activities like letter matching, rhyming, and beginning sounds. I also share some of the art projects in the unit—like a shape fire truck, a stop light craft, and a stop sign project—because my students learn so much when we combine hands-on making with purposeful skill practice. I also include simple assessment sheets to help you track progress without adding a bunch of extra work.
