Toys for Visual Toddlers.. Microwave on Therapy Tip of the Week 11.19.14

These are kids who like items that spin or have blinking lights, who are attracted to visual information such as letters and numbers, and who opt to watch DVDs or play with apps on a device rather than play with toys. This week Laura shows you a toy microwave with pretend food and discusses how to "play" with this activity for kids who like a visual hook. The first goal is to participate in the entire multi-step play routine. Receptive language goals can easily be targeted with this toy along with early requesting, early gestural imitation and simple sign language, in addition to expressive language at the imitation level with choices all the way through the spontaneous phrase level.
