Assignment risk is one of the most feared concepts in options trading and one of the least likely to actually happen. As long as your short option has extrinsic value, nobody is going to exercise it early. They would be giving up free money. Mike Butler has traded for over 10 years and been assigned a handful of times. The more interesting insight is what to do when a short option goes deep in the money with almost no extrinsic value left. At that point the option is trading like stock anyway. Converting to shares actually gives you a higher max profit than rolling the option forward because you now have unlimited upside instead of being capped at the original credit received. Mike walks through both scenarios live on SPY and Under Armour. 📊 tastylive: https://www.tastylive.com/ 📰 Get Tom's pre-market analysis every morning: https://www.tastylive.com/newsletters 📘 FREE Options Strategy Guide: https://tinyurl.com/bp9ms763 📱 Follow tastylive on X: https://x.com/tastyliveshow Chapters 0:00 What happens when an option expires in the money 1:30 Why assignment risk is lower than most traders think 2:30 Extrinsic value is your protection against early assignment 3:30 The dividend exception: when early assignment makes sense 4:30 SPY put spread: what happens if you get assigned 6:00 When taking shares beats rolling the option 7:30 Under Armour example: deep ITM options trading like stock 8:30 The spread expiration risk nobody talks about #AssignmentRisk #OptionsTrading #MikeButler #tastylive #OptionsInAction #ShortPut #OptionsEducation #ExtrinsicValue tastylive is a real financial network, producing hours of live programming every day.
