Capitalism's inherent neutrality arises from the fact that capitalism itself does not dictate who should be given society's capital or what goods and services should be produced but rather allows those properties to be emergent from the decentralized decisions of millions of people interacting. In this sense, markets are a rolling referendum. Capitalism itself is not responsible for cronyism, lobbying, subsidies, monopolization, or state capture. Those are interventions that distort the allocative process. In fact, they are often contradictions of capitalism’s foundational principles (e.g., a subsidy is essentially a vote not by consumers but by politicians on behalf of special interests). Criticizing capitalism because of distortions is like blaming democracy itself when an election is rigged. The system should be evaluated by its rules, not its violations. However, as covered at length in the video, while capitalism may be a neutral protocol, it still can not overcome its inherent internal contradictions and capitalism in principle has very different outcomes than capitalism in practice when it is overlayed on the game board of history. 00:00 What Do I Know? 02:28 My Investigation 04:15 Capitalism as a Neutral System 07:05 History as a Non-Neutral Progression 11:10 Inherent Contradictions 14:17 Why Capitalism Will Dismantle Itself 17:30 The Path Forwards
