Zombie, The First Tiki Drink?

The Zombie is one of the earliest tiki cocktails. First appearing on the "Don's Beachcomber" menu in 1934, one year after Prohibition ended. That means one of the most famous and popular tiki cocktails actually pre-dates the concept of Tiki Bars. To keep the exact recipe secret, one part of the recipe was referred to only as "Don's Mix". Since the recipe was kept secret, other bars came up with their own Zombie Recipes, and over time that very first original recipe was forgotten. At least until the 1990's, when Dave "Beachbum" Berry started tracking down the bartenders who had been there at the beginning, or trying to find any notes they may have made. It took 10 more years to find the original Zombie Recipe, and a little bit longer to learn the secret of "Don's Mix". In this video, I'm going to make the Zombie as "Beachbum" Berry serves it today, in his New Orleans tiki bar Latitude 29, with my own small twist for Halloween. I've got a store now!
