In this video, I’m doing what I do best: crocheting and rambling—philosophizing and theologizing a little—about what it means when we make things for other people. Crocheting for gifts can be genuinely beautiful, but it can also get painful fast when expectations, entitlement, or offhand opinions start creeping in. I talk through why comments about our handmade work can hit so deep, especially when we’ve poured time, care, and (let’s be real) our bodies into every stitch. I also dig into boundaries—because sometimes the most loving thing you can do is decide who gets your handmade, what kind of access they get to your creative energy, and how you handle feedback. I share my thoughts on why it’s okay if crochet is “just a hobby,” and it’s also okay if it’s meaningful, emotional, or even spiritual for you. The big takeaway: your crochet doesn’t need anyone’s approval to be valuable, and you’re allowed to protect the joy of making—whether that means gifting freely, gifting selectively, or not gifting at all.
