About This Video

In this Art Challenge Battle, I put two teams head-to-head drawing a live model… but we don’t get the whole figure at once. The model is split into six sections (head, torso, left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg), and each 15-minute round one artist from Team Orange and one from Team Blue can only draw a single section. It sounds simple until you realize how weird it is to make a figure feel unified when it’s built piece by piece by different hands. What I love about this format is it exposes the real problem behind “good figure drawing”: consistency. Team Blue talks strategy early—15 minutes on just a torso is plenty, but connecting that torso to a head/limbs drawn by different artists is the actual boss fight. We also threw in a constraint where some rounds are ballpoint pen (no erasing), which forces commitment and makes stylistic matching even harder. The big takeaway: proportions might line up, but if you don’t plan for a shared style and value language, the final figure can look like a collage. Watching everyone lock in—especially on the portrait section—shows how much one piece can carry the whole image.
