Introduction to Port Implantation

Port implantation is a surgical procedure to place a port, a small medical device, under the skin, typically in the chest or arm, to provide long-term venous access for medication administration and blood draws. It involves inserting a catheter into a large vein, usually the superior vena cava, and connecting it to a reservoir (the port) under the skin.
