Supreme Court says unlawful drug users may legally possess firearms
The Supreme Court unanimously ruled that unlawful drug users can legally possess firearms, striking down parts of a 1986 federal ban. The case involved Ali Danial Hemani, who admitted to regularly using marijuana and cocaine and was charged under the Firearms Owners’ Protection Act. Lower courts found the law unconstitutional, and justices upheld those rulings, rejecting the Trump administration’s appeal.
