JUMBO SPADEFISH at the Chesapeake Light Tower

The only thing that beats catching spadefish at the Chesapeake light tower is taking people for the first time to do it. Spadefish are the hardest fighting fish pound for pound we've caught. We hit the Chesapeake light tower for spadefish in the spring around the first of June. If you want to know how to catch spadefish, use small #2 live bait hooks and a small piece of clam. You might need a release float to keep the bait up near the top, a split shot, or even a small sinker to get it deeper. Watch your fish finder and get the bait to the depth the fish are at! DO NOT lock down your drag or you'll pull off most of the big ones. move the fish with the rod and reel back down on a bent rod to take up line. Don't let that line go slack or you'll lose them too.
