Discussion with Hanna Bilobrova — New York Baltic Film Festival

See a conversation with special guest Halla Bilobrava at this year's Fifth Annual New York Baltic Film Festival (NYBFF) presented by Scandinavia House. Following the screening of MARIUPOLIS 2, winner of the jury's Special Award at this year's Cannes Film Festival, she discussed the making of the film with the director Mantas Kvedaravičius, who was tragically killed during filming. A powerful documentary about Russia’s brutal siege of Mariupol in Ukraine this year by Lithuanian director Mantas Kvedaravičius, MARIUPOLIS 2's footage was tirelessly restored after his death by his fiancée Hanna Bilobrova alongside his producers and collaborators to share its message of human resilience under unimaginable adversity. Bilobrova, who was with Kvedaravičius during filming, was joined in conversation with Maksimas Milta (Yale-based political scientist and commentator) to discuss her experience, which involved smuggling the footage out to complete the director's legacy. The screening was preceded by an introduction by film producer Uljana Kim. The film’s predecessor, MARIUPOLIS (Ukraine/Lithuania/Germany/France), in which Kvedaravičius documented the lives of people during Russia’s attacks on Mariupol back in 2014, is streaming virtually during the festival from November 4-13.
