In this Homelab series video, I’m walking you through YeetFile (yeah, it’s pretty fun to say). It’s a lightweight self-hosted tool that lets me upload either text or files and instantly get a shareable link to send to someone else. The part I really like is the built-in controls: I can limit how many times the link can be downloaded, set an expiration timer, and password-protect the share so some random person who stumbles on the URL can’t grab my stuff. I demo the whole flow end-to-end: I upload a text snippet, set it to one download, make it expire in 60 minutes, and add a password. Then I open the link and you can see it prompts for the password, shows the size, the expiration countdown, and the remaining downloads. Once it’s been downloaded, the remaining count hits zero and refreshing the page throws an error because the file is gone—exactly what you want for one-time shares. For self-hosting, I keep it simple: Docker + Docker Compose, grab the provided compose file from the YeetFile GitHub, and run it. By default it exposes on port 8090, and if you want to be fancy like me, you can stick it behind Nginx and serve it over HTTPS.
