About This Video

In this homelab series video, I’m setting up PsiTransfer—a self-hosted file sharing app that makes it stupid simple to share files securely without forcing people to create accounts. The whole flow is: upload a file, get a unique link, and optionally set a retention period (from one-time download up to weeks) and/or password-protect the download. If you’ve ever had Google Drive or Dropbox blocked by company policies, this is one of those “spin it up quick and move on” tools that keeps you in control of your data. I start where I always start in my lab: DNS + automation. I add a DNS entry so I’m not memorizing IPs, update my Ansible/AWX inventory, and run my workflow job template to create a new VM in Proxmox, patch it, install Docker + Docker Compose, and set up TLS with my Step CA + Nginx reverse proxy. After that, I SSH in, run the PsiTransfer Docker container (on port 3000), fix the volume permissions, and test the UI. I show both a one-time download with a password (link dies after a single download) and a timed retention example where the link stays valid until it expires.
