In this homelab series video, I walk through DoneTick, which is basically a simple self-hosted chore/task manager you can run for yourself or your whole family. If you’ve got kids (or honestly just a busy house), you can assign chores, set priorities/labels, and let people mark stuff as done or skip it. I show the UI quickly—creating a task like “take out the trash,” editing it for more details, and turning it into a repeatable schedule (daily/weekly/monthly/yearly/custom) with due dates and notifications. Then I jump into the setup, because that’s the part most people actually care about in a homelab. I’m running this on a VM with Docker already installed, plus Nginx and certs for HTTPS, so the install is basically: grab the Docker Compose from the DoneTick GitHub, create a config directory, and drop in the required selfhosted.yaml file with the default variables (unless you want to wire up Telegram/Pushover notifications). After docker compose up -d and checking logs, you hit the site, create your first user (none exist by default), and you’re off to the races—dark mode included.
