This is the Zhongyi 28mm f/5.6 Creator (originally called the Tourist), and I tested it as a budget-friendly wide-angle option for Leica M street shooters. It’s not the sharpest or most “special” lens, but it works, has very well-controlled CA, and makes sense if you live at f/8–f/16 with zone focusing.

Pros

  • +Affordable entry into a compact-ish 28mm for Leica M
  • +Hardly any chromatic aberration even in high-contrast scenes
  • +Controlled vignetting for an f/5.6 lens
  • +Can focus down to 0.35m (unique for an M lens)

Cons

  • -Slightly soft even at f/8–f/11, especially toward the edges
  • -My copy slightly front-focused
  • -Easy to overshoot from 0.7m to 0.35m when focusing fast
  • -Lens hood is flimsy and can pop off
