Four-day work week proposed under new California bill https://www.fox5ny.com/news/shorter-work-week-proposed-under-new-california-bill The State of California currently has a bill underway, Bill AB-2932 who's aim is to create a 4 day work week. This bill would apply to larger companies of 500 employees or more and while it wouldn't necessarily mandate a 4 day work week it would change the definition of a fulltime job from 40 hours per week to 32 hours per week, in essence creating a 4 day work week for many employees. Companies who didn't want to move to a 4 day work week would have to pay employees overtime for any hours worked over 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week. Proponents of the bill say it would lead to happier and healthier employees and more productivity which would lead to increased profitability for employers, however opponents of the bill say it would put California employers on an uneven playing field with other companies across the country and some say it would lead to lower worker pay moving forward since employers would be getting less hours from employees.
