In this installment of the View from the Back of the Band series, we have the Nicholas Payton tune Time Traveling. This is a medium-tempo tune with a great head and interesting chord changes. The chart features a short drum solo at the end. This performance is from a Nicholas Payton tribute concert at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in Charlotte, NC, on 8/1/25. The Performers are Curtis Taylor, Trumpet; Ziad Rabie, Tenor Sax; Sean Higgins, Piano; William Ledbetter, Bass; and Rick Dior, Drums These tribute gigs typically consist of a single short rehearsal followed by the concert. You must possess the interpretive skills to read a basic lead sheet, as I demonstrate on the screen here. Please excuse the harsh audio as this room is a giant glass box and I am using 2 cell phones to record and video the performance. You may want to listen with headphones so you can hear the audio more clearly.
