In this installment of the View from the Top Series, I play an extended time solo with several types of right-hand techniques, including push/pull, drop strokes, rebound strokes, finger strokes, and circular movement on the ride cymbal. All of these techniques lend themselves to good cymbal and drum sounds as well as dynamic control on the kit. You can investigate all of these techniques by viewing the videos on my hand technique playlist. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_c8RjVWL5e9WQBxx6mB8IamuLzy6frnQ The kit I am using is a Gretsch Catalina Elite set from the early 1990s. I use this as my portable practice kit. The sizes are: 16" BD, 12" and 14" toms and a Slingerland Brass 12" x 6.5 " snare. The cymbals are a Zildjian Re-mix 18" ride, Re-mix 12" crash, Paiste 18" traditional flat ride, and Zildjian Re-mix 12" Hi Hats, and a small Pan Man Fan made by Fredrico Percussion. Microphones I am using 2 Sennheiser MKH 80 Microphones for overheads and an AKG D112 on the Bass Drum.
