In this short solo, you can see how I move around a jazz kit from above using primarily my wrists and fingers. I am using the concept of shifting which means not moving my arms up and down but rather across my body. This allows me to play with a relaxed posture so I can let the ideas flow. I am also using glancing blows on the cymbals rather than straight on crashes. This allows the cymbals to breath and is a much more pleasant sound than crashing straight on. The kit I am using is a Gretsch Catalina Elite set from the early 1990s. The sizes are: 16" BD, 12" and 14" toms and a Slingerland Gene Krupa 1960's Sound King COB 5"x14" snare. The cymbals are all old K Zildjian from the 1940s through 1960s, except for a 24" Masterwork Thalles series China/Swish. I am using 2 Sennheiser MKH 80 Microphones for overheads and an AKG D112 on the Bass Drum
