In this installment of the View from the Back of the Band series, we have the Nicholas Payton Tune Lil' Liza Jane. This is an up-tempo bop tune with a tricky head. This performance is from a Nicholas Payton tribute concert at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in Charlotte, NC on 8/1/25 The Performers are Curtis Taylor, Trumpet Ziad Rabie, Tenor Sax Sean Higgins, Piano William Ledbetter, Bass and Rick Dior, Drums These tribute gigs consist of one short rehearsal and then the concert. It is vital that you have the interpretive skills to read a basic lead sheet as I show on the screen here. Please excuse the harsh audio as this room is a giant glass box and I am using 2 cell phones to record and video the performance. You may want to listen with headphones so you can hear the audio more clearly.
