Here is a review of three Entity snare drums. These drums are in the sizes of 14" x 7', 14" x 5.5", and 14" x 4". The shells use a stave construction consisting of alternating Jarrah wood and Mahogany. The bright-sounding wood (Jarrah) and mellow-sounding wood (Mahogany) give the drums a really interesting voice. To me, they sound somewhere in between a Brady Stave drum and an old WFL mahogany ply drum, which is unlike anything else I own. I show you the drums individually and then play them on the drum set, comparing them to some WFL drums that are very close in size. About This Video

In this video I’m reviewing three Entity stave snare drums from Australia in 14"x4", 14"x5.5", and 14"x7". I’ve been using them on gigs for a couple weeks, and overall I really love them—especially the sound. The shells alternate Jarrah (hard, bright, high Janka) and Mahogany (soft, warm, porous), and that combo gives you a voice that’s honestly hard to place: to my ear it’s somewhere between a Brady stave drum and an old WFL mahogany ply drum. I play each drum by itself, show construction details and the inside of the shell, then put them on the kit and compare them to WFL drums that are very close in size. I’m also totally honest about the issues: the Trick GS7 strainer on my 7" (and sometimes the 4") had rattle and “game-playing” problems when turning the snares off, which is a dealbreaker for recording and for how I play (I turn snares off a lot for Afro-Cuban/Brazilian stuff). I show a temporary tape fix, but my real takeaway is the shells are elite—hardware needs attention. The other big surprise: I didn’t need muffling, even on the 4" drum, and that’s a huge win for these mahogany-heavy shells.
