In this installment of the View from the Top Series I play "Now What", a basic big band chart with a floating Jazz modal feel. This type of feel can be approached in several ways and was popularized in the 1960s by modal jazz artists such as Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter. The tune is by Mike Kamu,f and It is from the book Sittin' in with the Big Band Volume 1. I play the tune and then talk about my approach to this type of chart and floating pedal tone feel. The drums used in this video are a Craviotto stacked Private Reserve kit. The sizes are Bass Drum 20x15 Toms 10x8 and 12x8 Floor Tom 14x 14 The snare drum is a 14x6.5 Nickel Over Brass Dialtune Snare The Cymbals are: 21" 1950's K Ride 18" 1950's K crash/ride with rivets 16" Paiste Traditional Thin Crash Masterwork 24" Swish/China with Rivets Sabian 13" HH Regular Hi Hats The Microphones are two Sennheiser MKH 800 overheads and an AKG D112 on the bass drum.
