About This Video

In this video, I sat down with Sean Hop Day and Jeff Cobb from Zones to talk about what “always-on” AV really means now that AV lives on the corporate network. The big shift they called out (and I agree with) is that modern AV can’t be treated like a dumb appliance anymore. If it’s powering customer experience, wayfinding, conference rooms or kiosks, the expectation is the same as any enterprise endpoint: reliability, visibility, patching, and security that doesn’t get bolted on after the fact. We dug into where deployments break down in the real world: skipping site assessments, weak architecture, too many one-off designs, inconsistent vendor choices, and poor project management. Jeff shared the kind of “you’ve seen this before” examples—wrong dates on lobby signage, blue screens on kiosks—that scream lack of monitoring and ownership. We also got blunt about risk: supply chain and third-party access, firmware/updates, and even “simple” devices like digital clocks becoming points of entry. My main takeaway: set standards, know your assets, and build proactive monitoring with clear metrics—then segment appropriately and treat AV like enterprise IT. Because if you want always-on experiences, you have to manage them like they’re business-critical.
