One of the reasons I’m always very careful when a client asks for a short haircut is because there is far more involved than simply cutting the hair shorter. A short haircut can look absolutely stunning on the right person. 🌟 But on the wrong person, it can expose features that longer hair naturally softens or hides. Before making the decision, I look at several important factors: 1️⃣ The Shape of Your Head 🧠: The overall shape of your skull plays a huge role in how a short haircut will look. Some head shapes naturally suit short hair, while others benefit from having more length to create balance and softness. 2️⃣ Your Facial Features 👩👨: I look at: ✔️ How soft or strong your features are ✔️ The width of your face ✔️ Your jawline ✔️ Your cheekbones ✔️ Your forehead A haircut should enhance your features, not overpower them. 3️⃣ The Length of Your Neck 🦢: A medium length neck often works beautifully with shorter hairstyles. A shorter or long neck may require a different shape to create better proportions. 4️⃣ Hair Density and Thickness 💇‍♀️: This is one of the most important factors. Many people believe that cutting the hair short will make it look thicker. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it does the exact opposite. If the hair is very fine or sparse, a short haircut can expose areas that previously went unnoticed. 5️⃣ Thinning on the Top or Crown ⚠️: This is where I become extra cautious. The top section of the head is often what defines the entire haircut. If there is thinning, low density, or a very flat crown, cutting the hair too short may draw attention to those areas rather than improve them. 6️⃣ Hair Growth Patterns🌪️: Cowlicks, growth directions, and natural movement all affect the final result.
