Groundcovers may be the most underrated category of plants out there. These low growing perennials may not be as flashy as a Hydrangea or offer fragrant blooms like a Butterfly Bush, but their role in the garden cannot be overstated! These plants are essential if you are looking to create a more low maintenance garden. By planting lots of ground covering plants, you will be covering the bare ground with plant material, which will reduce the available space for weeds to grow, reduce the amount of mulches needed, as well as helping to retain moisture in the ground.
